This was how the São Paulo FC players celebrated after winning the World Club Championship against european champions Liverpool in the final, in the japanese city of Yokohama. A goal from Mineiro as enough for the brasilian team to overcome the "reds", but the goalkeeper Rogério Ceni was the "man of the match". This competition took the place of the European South American Cup, but at the end of the day, it was proven that even the best teams from the emerging football continents still don't have enough quality to measure themselves against the European and South American powerhouses. Will Laporta smile after facing Mourinho?
Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, poses with a special plaque he received from the hands of UEFA president Lennart Johansson during an awards presentation to representatives of the 21 clubs who have won the European Champions Clubs Cup/UEFA Champions League so far, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The awards ceremony is part of the celebration of the 50 years of the European Club Football competition. The problem for mister Laporta was that the draw of the first knockout round of the UEFA Champions League determined another clash against José Mourinho's Chelsea. Last year, the portuguese coach got the best out of the duel. Let's see how things will go this time.
John Ruiz against a russian... monster!!!
I admire how brave the US heavyweight boxing world champion, John Ruiz, seems to be. I wouldn't have the guts to face his challenger for the world title, russian boxer Nikolai Valuev. Here they are, raising their fists and staring at each other during a public presentation in Berlin, Ruiz is going to fight Valuev in the WBA title bout in the german capital, saturday night. Scary, to say the least.
Graz turns it's back on Arnold Schwarznegger
This is an outside view of the Schwarzenegger Stadium in Graz, pictured on 29 October 2004, when peace activists had covered the letters of Schwarzenegger with a banner reading "killer of human beings". The soccer stadium in Austria‘s second-largest city is to be renamed as a sign of displeasure with the city‘s famous son, a local newspaper reported on Thursday, 14 December 2005. A majority of members on Graz City Council voted to rename the stadium after the Austrian-born governor of California approved the execution earlier this week of Stanley 'Tookie' Williams, the former gang member that was waiting for his fate on the death row since 1981.
